Celebrating International Women’s Day

Happy International Women’s Day, everyone. We believe in celebrating everyone and their accomplishments – but we’d be lying if we said that International Women’s Day wasn’t a little bit special for us.

One of our favorite things on the Internet is Makers, a documentary series that is the largest video collection of women’s stories in existence. And it’s pretty inspiring.

There are so, so many wonderful stories on the Makers site to choose from – we posted some of our favorites below (click on the image still to be taken to the video), but we encourage you to take a deep dive. Get inspired, share with your children, peers, family members and friends – and then take action. What would International Women’s Day be if it didn’t push us all to make the next wave of events worth celebrating?

“The difference is that while I struggled to come to terms with the possibilities for myself, my daughter presumes that all of life is available for her. Women do everything now.”

“We all look different, and I think that is something that is important with the growth of where ballet is going. I’m a woman now. I don’t look like a little girl. And I don’t think we should look like little girls.”

MISTY COPELAND, ballet dancer

“I took a really deep look in and said ‘what am I afraid of?’ And it was the best year of my life. Everything was like jumping off a cliff.”

RESHMA SAUJANI, Founder, Girls Who Code

“It’s really Girl Scouts that sparked my imagination and made me think about how I, as a little girl, am going to change the world.”
