quickly recapping the dish

Last week, we did something really cool – took a group of (seriously talented) food writers on a progressive tasting dinner around Mosaic, exploring some of the great food options we have to offer. It was a delicious way to spend an evening – in fact, it was probably one of our favorite nights at Mosaic yet.

We’ll give you a sneak peek into The Dish below, but feel free to recreate your own stop. Most of the gorgeous images here are from Sarah Gerrity, the mastermind behind the food blog sweetsonian.com – make sure you add it to your daily reads!

If you’re looking for an in-depth review, Lateitia over at French Twist D.C. has an awesome recap on her blog.

First, we headed to Cyclone Anaya’s, where we loaded up on chips, salsa, margs (duh) and some great tacos and crabmeat nachos. There, the team filled us in on the story behind the restaurant. It involves a family and a professional wrestler – yup! – and it alone is worth taking a trip to discover. The margaritas, however, will keep ya coming back.

Next, it was off to True Food Kitchen, where we were greeted with what can only be described as a bouquet of gorgeous vegetables. Almost too beautiful to eat – almost. We loaded up on some of TFK’s signature drinks, skirt steak tacos and edamame dumplings. Then, getting close to stuffed, we soldiered on.

Next on the list? B Side. Have you been in their new space yet? It’s got this cool urban vibe that we can’t get enough of.

They had some good stuff going on. Charcuterie plates are the way to our hearts and the good people at B Side did not hold back on theirs.

The night wrapped at Gypsy Soul, where Chef R.J. Cooper treated our group to an introduction about the restaurant that covered its roots, his inspirations, and – of course – the food. Dish after dish came sailing out of Gypsy’s open kitchen, and each one was maybe better than the last. Some of us couldn’t stop indulging in the chicken fried chicken skins, others were swooning over the creamy shrimp & grits – and let’s not even get started on the dessert.

Big, big thank you to everyone involved – both the talented chefs and restaurant staffs who filled us with piles of delicious food and the writers who joined in on the fun! We had a blast – and after writing this recap, we’re hungry all over again.
